Tianjin (help·info) (Chinese: 天津; pinyin: Tiānjīn; Wade-Giles: T'ien-chin; [tʰi̯ɛn˥˥ t͡ɕin˥˥]; Postal map spelling: Tientsin) is a metropolis in Northeastern China. It is governed as a direct-controlled municipality, one of four such designations, and is thus under direct administration of the central government, and borders Hebei Province and Beijing Municipality, bounded to the east by the Bohai Gulf portion of the Yellow Sea. In terms of urban population, it is the sixth largest city of the People's Republic of China, and its urban land area ranks 5th in the nation, only after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

Tianjin's urban area is located along the Hai He River, which connects to the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers via the Grand Canal in Tianjin. Its ports, some distance away, are located on the Bohai Gulf in the Pacific Ocean. Tianjin was once home to foreign concessions in the late Qing Dynasty and early Kuomintang (KMT) era. The municipality incorporates the coastal region of Tanggu, home to the Binhai New Area and the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA). Tianjin Municipality borders Hebei province to the north, south, and west; the Chinese capital Beijing is to the northwest, and the Bohai Gulf to the east.

A. Find a pay phone and use a international calling card. That is my best idea. I am not sure but most hotels will do this but the price might be hefty.

Has anyone studied internship for ACUPUNCTURE in china Beijing Tianjin?
Q. I am interesed in traveling to china to intern in a acupuncture chinese medicine hospital. I currently have my masters degree in chinese medicine in america. I do not speak chinese, but I am interested in a 3 month language study. I am interested in 3-6 months of internship, but hopefully more. I am also interested in learning how to cook chinese food so any links to culinary schools would be great. The cooking would be just for fun. Questions: What are ur experiences with your training? Where did u train? Was it difficult to use a translator during classes? Where did u stay and what were the dorms like? Internet included if not how much. Are there any chinese websites that u can find apartments with? What was the cost for training… [cont.]

A. First off, go to china for acupuncture. No matter the level of expertise in an American school, you will never fully appreciate the beauty of your Chinese medicine unless you see it where it was born. I have never been, but like you, am working on studying Tuina in China (on a shorter course). Beijing is where you must start, its the center of it all. And you can always go from there. I would suggest strongly the chinese language course, but as informed from a chinese friend who teaches classes in languages in Beijing..."there are more people in China learning English right now, than there are native English speakers in the world"...thats positive news for a native English speaker! Check out CIEE, I-to-I.com, and search for any of the MANY… [cont.]

Living Cost in Tianjin,China?
Q. I have a question for all you Ex-Pats working in China. I hearded China taxes about 40% of your income if you make more than a certain amount. What is that amount?. Also how does the living expenses in China compare to that of a major city like Detroit or Atlanta in the US?. For example, if you make $50,000 in China living in a city like Tianjin, does that translate to more savings than living in the US because things are cheaper. I have been to places like Shanghai & found that its not all that cheap. I rented an apartment for RMB6500 and yes it was a nice apartment. Living with prudence, can you save a lot of money in China?. I don't plan to own a vehicle while in China by the way.
