Hebei (help·info) (Chinese: 河北; pinyin: Héběi; Wade-Giles: Ho-pei; Postal map spelling: Hopeh) is a province of the People's Republic of China in the North China region. Its one-character abbreviation is "冀" (pinyin: jì), named after Ji Province, a Han Dynasty province (zhou) that included what is now southern Hebei. The name Hebei means "north of the (Yellow) River". In 1928 Hebei was formed after the central government dissolved the province of Zhili (simplified Chinese: 直隶; traditional Chinese: 直隸; pinyin: Zhílì; Wade-Giles: Chih-li), which means "Directly Ruled (by the Imperial Court)". Hebei completely surrounds Beijing and Tianjin municipalities (which also border each other). It borders Liaoning to the northeast, Inner Mongolia to the north, Shanxi to the west, Henan to the south, and Shandong to the southeast. Bohai Bay of the Yellow Sea is to the east. A small part of Hebei, an exclave disjointed from the rest of the province, is wedged between the municipalities of Beijing and Tianjin. A common alternate name for Hebei is Yānzhào (燕趙), after the state of Yan and state of Zhao that existed here during the Warring States Period of early Chinese history. From Wikipedia under the

I'll be living in hebei, near Beijing. But I hear it's hot and I don't know what to bring for this 6 week trip. I'm leaving in two weeks. Any ideas? I have a laptop I want to bring, but I live in a rural city (Qiuxian) so will I be able to charge it? What about bugspray? I really have no idea. It isnt that hot in Northern China in the summer, in fact the area is known for its temperate climate. I am however a little confused as to where you are going, what city and what province? Shopping is usually good where ever you go in China, take some light clothing, jeans, tank tops, t shirts, maybe a skirt, sandals, shoes that are comfortable for walking, all the prescriptions you usually take, some OTC things like aspirin, take vitamins, sinutab or cold medication, FYI you can buy q tips everywhere in China, you cant buy tampons, at least I have never seen any.
