How to find accommodation in Melbourne?
Q. I am a migrant, planning to settledown in Melbourne in the near future. My biggest problem is finding accommodation, as I have learned that many real estate agents do not like letting apartments to jobless people. It will take several months for me to find work there and I do not have any close friends there, who could help me with my accommodation. The hotels seem to be so expensive, even the 'budget' ones like hostels. Could anybody tell me about any agencies or institutions who could help me in this regards please? Just an answer to the 'Melbourne Girl'. I have already got the Aussie permanent resident visa under 'Skilled Migrant' category, which doesn't need a sponsor.

A. In your place I would first go to a hostel (about 20-25 AUD - maybe less if you stay longer) and look for other accomodation when in Oz. That way you can talk to people face to face and you can probably easier convince a landlord by your appearance that you are a serious person. Maybe you can rent an apartment for a while which leaves you time for looking for a job. If you have any (very positive) written recommendations from former employers, take them with you, as well as phone numbers. Maybe provide proof (bank statements, etc) that you have sufficient financial means to support yourself while unemployed and looking for a job. For hostels look at e.g.:

What is the best way to seek accommodation when looking for employment?
Q. I am disabled and require a little accommodation when working. However, I'm afraid that I will be passed over for prospective jobs if I mention my disability. I know they cannot "legally" pass me over for having a disability, but they can always say they found a "more qualified" applicant. Any advice?

A. If your "Positive-Eager Nature" outshines your Minor Disability, and Above that.. your Low- Self Esteem about your Disability, you will get "Hired" at once! Remember this always: A Company Lives or Dies by Revenue! Your Minor Disability as you Put-it, Means that a company has to spend a few pennies on something to "Aid" you while you ARE on The Job... But, your "Positive Qualities" ARE Making 100's of Dollars or 1000's A Day, five days a week! See what I mean? This company spent a few pennies of theirs and on your Future to make Revenue: Positive Revenue! Oh yes, The BEST Part IS this company knows that they One-Up'd their "Competition" by seeing your full-POTENTIAL, and Hired you, so they ARE More Secure in their Industry! Follow Me again? [cont.]

What is the cheapest way of me and my other 3 friends get cheap accommodation in Miami?
Q. Me and 3 friends are going to Miami on holiday in April. We are going to stay there for 2 weeks and we were looking to stay in a hotel but i think renting a flat may be a lot cheaper than staying in a hotel. Does any one has any other suggestion of how we could find cheaper accommodation in Miami for 2 weeks? Estimate me the prices when you suggesting accommodation please. 10 points for the best answer.
Asked by PITT - Tue Feb 3 15:57:50 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You may be in luck because right now.. until tomorrow February 6th actually.. LastMinuteTravel.com is offering hotels worldwide for only $1 a night. They have hotels available in Miami, that is one of the destinations they are able to accommodate people in. Unfortunately the offer of hotels for $1 per night, is ending tomorrow.. so if you hurry and book your hotel you may be able to get away extremely cheap. Hope this was helpful.

How do I advertise my house to Japanese University boarders seeking accommodation?
Q. We live in a four bedroom house in Canberra and would like to have University Japanese student s board at our house in 2010. How do we go about advertising out two rooms and finding university students seeking accommodation? Does anyone know of any websites where we can advertise to Japanese students?
Asked by Lucy - Fri Sep 4 05:56:32 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You can also look in your yellow pages to see what Japanese businesses are in the area and and post an ad in their place of business if possible. There may be some touristy areas in the downtown area you can also post up a message. Posting it up in Japanese would be even easier for you, you just need to have someone write it out for you.

A. If you look on realestate.com.au and put in under shaRE accomodation and enter the prices you can go up to you should find some places there to ask about. i found some.. also think to enter some of the surrounding suburbs like Mt Waverley, Nottinghill, Oakleigh, Clayton North , Clayton South Huntingdale etc It is close to the university there so there is always places emptying and changes made, but don't wait too late to see to it as it will be booked up with next years students otherwise. also you may try looking in the local papers for people who want to rent out 1 room to a border. www.leadernews.com.au might help

A. Don't take my advice as Gospel, but the property prices in northern cities ie. Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, are a fair bit cheaper than property prices in the south. Plus, the living costs are considerably cheaper up north. However, with the recent and current events in the financial world, I'm not sure how easy it is to obtain a mortgage in the UK.

Are there any luxury accommodation places to stay in SA?
Q. I really like staying in luxury accommodation and exploring the local region, I've never been to SA and wondered if there was any luxury accommodation I could stay in & then explore the local region from. I am planning to come in June.
Asked by Chook - Tue Jan 29 21:49:37 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you want to explore the Barossa wine region, try "Peppers" 5 star accommodation in the area. If you Google "SA Tourism" you will get lots of good ideas, especially if you contact them regarding things that interest you. June will be winter in South Australia, but we are the driest state in the driest continent in the world, and currently in drought conditions, so the weather will probably be fine! Check out the Flinder's Ranges, Kangaroo Island, Adelaide Hills and Coonawarra areas for a start. Good luck.

A. I live in Adelaide, so I do know what I'm talking about. You can get rooms @ Backpacker-type hostels, there are many in the city. There're heaps of uni student share houses available. Go on-line to rip it up magazine or db magazine. They often list house vacancies. (I think. They used to.) Go to Adelaide Now on-line. This is the local paper. Try Gumtree or TrueLocal. When I moved here, I knew no-one, got here on a bus @ 6am & had a room by 2pm the same day. Great city. Nothing is far away from anything else!

A. Quest on Burke is a nice apartment hotel, spacious beautiful one and two bedroom apartments. What you spend on the room you can save on food, make your own brekky and get take away. It's around $150 - $180 a night. The cheapest online is $170 with the rate of the day for a standard 1 bedroom or $190 for the executive 1 bedroom.

A. He needs to go to the local town-hall (mairie) of the town he is living and get a "Attestation d'accueil" (Proof of Accomodation) which he sends to you by mail so that you are able to attach it to your visa application. .. (see page 146) .. If he should however live in a student's hostel I am afraid that the French authorities will not issue that accomodation proof.

What is staff accommodation like on Hamilton Island?
Q. Our family of three are looking to move to Hamilton Island for work, however we have no idea what the staff accommodation is like. What do we need to bring up with us? How much are we likely to pay in rent? Are there any perks we might get? Anything we need to know?

A. I went to Hamilton Island a few years ago - we stayed at the Reef View hotel is was beautiful. The island is great, there are no cars and everyone drives golf buggies around. Some cool things we did were we went on a snorkeling trip with Fantasea cruises, it was about $100 for the day but it included everything - food, snorkelling gear and it took you to the great barrier reef and back. Also we did another cruise that took us to Whitehaven beach - its one of the top 10 beaches in the world a must see!!! We did parasailing, which was at the main beach also. Found hamilton to be a bit pricy on food and drinks as it was an island... Have fun!!

I'm aware of the real estate finder websites, my problem is the fact that those guys require a physical inspection before they can accept your application. If anyone has any idea what the best way to go about this is, it would be really helpful (maybe some sort of government help or something for foreigners looking to rent a house in Australia?)

A. It really depends on where you want to rent and what sort of accommodation you are after. It might be worthwhile to contact the real estate agency and inform them about your situation. In order to rent a house you need to be able to provide the agency with proof of income. It might be an idea to come over here first. You could stay in a Caravan Park for a couple of days and search for a place from there.A lot of Caravan Parks offer really good facilities.
